10 best PC games with female protagonist
The International Women’s Day is right around the corner. Here's 10 best PC games with amazing female protagonist.
Yeah-yeah, the gender of a main character does not determine how good the game is. 🙄 However, we’ve been blessed with huge amount of wonderful games in recent years. Yet, having to play over and over again for a mighty, fearless macho, who finds themselves in an epicentre of exciting adventures and unpredictable plot twists gets awfully boring and bland.
And the industry is responding to the demand. Five years ago, mere 2% of video games had female protagonists, but this number has grown up to 18%, which is great news. To support the trend, we must give acknowledgement and praise to those who create interesting female characters and put them in unique worlds.
The International Women’s Day is right around the corner. For some, it is a time of glorification and cherishing of womanhood, for some it commemorates the continuing fight for equal rights. This day is a great opportunity to celebrate the games that put women and girls in the leading role with the list of 10 best PC games with female protagonists.
Resident Evil 3

It’s true that even the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was looked down upon, especially after the masterful Resident Evil 2. CAPCOM was taking time before polishing the formula of the most popular zombie game series, however, looking in retrospect, Resident Evil 3 is mostly guilty of being different. It is more action oriented than the previous game, and the remake manages to elevate all of its strong features, making it a great game.
The renewed Resident Evil 3 now has significantly improved visuals as well as gameplay that is adjusted to modern standards. This makes the adventure of brave Jill Valentine thrilling and fun to participate in. Advance to the new rooms with caution, as you never know where and when the monsters are going to attack. Even the regular zombies present deadly danger.

We’re trying to pick less obvious options here. But it’s impossible to imagine the list of the best games with female main characters without one and only Lara Croft. Eight years ago the world witnessed the new version of the Tomb Raider’s adventures. And even in 2021, the trilogy takes breaths away from those who are just discovering it. No wonder, considering the fact that the first game has over 100,000 positive reviews on Steam.
Tomb Raider differentiated itself from previous games not only with outstanding graphics, which still looks pleasant nowadays, but with thought-through setting and story, which keeps progressing and expanding throughout the series. The gameplay pleases with its diversity, as you’ll get the chance to shoot, stealth, parkour, solve puzzles and, of course, explore tombs.

The level design is so genius that it does not need an army of minions and complicated controls to make it worth playing.
But don’t be fooled. Easy controls do not equal an easy game, as the gameplay of Celeste reminds of Super Meat Boy. Success is about precision, knowledge and experience. But don’t worry about running out of your lives. Like in real life, failures are the part of the process and an inevitable element of the path to success. So, instead of punishing you, you respawn and increase your death count.

Remedy Entertainment continues its conquest of creating striking mystery action games and you can clearly see that in Control. The main character, Jesse Faden, arrives at the Federal Bureau of Control, where weird things start occurring from the doorstep. The game has an unsettling atmosphere and confusing story which, like Christopher Nolan’s movie, reveals its secrets to the attentive audience.
The gameplay of Control can also be referred to as extraordinary. It presents mind-blowing psychic combat abilities, such as throwing objects at enemies as well as just throwing your enemies. The more you update your skills, the more rewarding it is to use them. The destructive environment of the game deserves a special distinction for how it’s incorporated in the combat system.

It’s been a long time since we got a great psychological horror. The prayers have been heard, because The Medium does not rely on cheap jumpscares to create a thrill. Instead, it offers grim story, suspense and the atmosphere of dreadfulness. And every aspect of The Medium elevates this atmosphere, including outstanding sound design, starting from noises, soundtrack co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka and voice acting.
The story unravels on the ground of a deserted communist-era vacation resort, where a spirit medium Marianne is looking for a mysterious man named Thomas. Turns out, the place has such a powerful connection to the spirit realm, that it creates dual reality, which becomes a signature gameplay feature, particularly when it comes to solving puzzles.
