Say farewell to EA's launcher!
EA is officially saying goodbye to Origin. When you log in to the launcher, you will see a notification saying that later this year, the EA app for Windows will replace Origin as the destination for purchasing, downloading, and playing EA games.
Gamers will be gradually receiving invites to transfer onto the new platform. Electronic Arts promises that all of your games, additional content, and the already installed titles will be available to you as soon as you log into the EA app. All saved games, be they stored locally or in the cloud, will also be transferred, so you don’t need to worry about losing any progress in your favorite releases. Your Origin friends list will also migrate to the new software.
However, the rollout isn’t going as smoothly as EA would like, as some players are reporting that not all of their Origin purchases appeared in the EA app. Does this mean that access to some titles is irreversibly lost? It’s hard to say at this time, but it’s well worth looking at the list of games available for both launchers and contacting EA support before deciding to switch to the new program.
Mac users can remain calm, as they will be able to continue using Origin on their systems for the time being. Any information on potential changes on their platform is still months away.
What do you think about this switch? Did you get the invite to the EA app yet? What are the best games you played on Origin? Let us know in the comments below.
