Top 9 trending PC games - new games to play in 2021

It's time to fill up your backlogs with some hot titles. Here're 9 trending PC games to play in 2021.

It’s been a year since the announcement of COVID 19 pandemic. As we’ve been spending practically all of our free time at home playing games, some of us have significantly cleared the Steam backlog. However, despite all the tragedies and hardships the world faced in the past 366 days, game developers and publishers have been working tirelessly to bring its titles to the players.

Therefore, we’ve decided to gather 9 most trending PC games of 2021. The virus is not going anywhere, so we might as well fill up backlogs with some hot titles, especially that we’ve already got some worth of recognition.

Valheim

Release Date: February 2, 2021
Platform: PC

Who could have thought that after a huge tide of survival games we’ve been riding in the past years, our passion for this genre can be restored? Because that’s exactly what Valheim does. Each turn starts with the player finding himself in a distressed Norse purgatory. Your mission, apart from crafting and building the best setting for survival, is to defeat the bosses in the name of Odin.

Many elements of Valheim seem familiar from what you might have seen in other games. There’s some Rust resemblance with combat having strong souls-like vibe. However, matching these features together creates a highly addictive gaming experience. You can play solo, but, hands down, Valheim is best enjoyed with friends, because its online co-op supports up to 10 players.

Loop Hero

Release Date: March 4, 2021
Platform: PC

Loop Hero has already made some noise by gathering over 10,000 reviews on Steam in less than 2 weeks since the release. This is not your average roguelite deckbuilder with pixelated graphics. Loop Hero masterfully combines RPG, strategy, roguelite, deckbuilding, puzzles elements in an addictive cleverly designed manner.

Without doubt, its addictive gameplay glues you to the monitor for hours. Each time you’d go on a loop, using the cards modifies the environment, allowing you to gather more resources. When using them to construct new buildings in your camp, you’ll start the loop with more beneficial abilities and items, getting you closer to the boss each time.

Lust From Beyond

Release Date: March 11, 2021
Platform: PC

Lust From Beyond is a solid psychological horror with a disturbing Lovecraftian atmosphere. Erotic images are crucial for this game, but it’s not here for the mere sake of being. Nudity is presented in a tasteful way, which complements the grim vibe of Lust From Beyond and adds shock value from time to time. Even the most accustomed players will get shivers on their journey.

The dark, non-intrusive soundtrack, straightforward gameplay and balanced puzzles - all of these components are set in such a way that nothing distracts you from the unique setting and plot. Overall, Lust From Beyond is a decent game, despite all the indecency going on there.

Skul: The Hero Slayer

Release Date: January 21, 2021
Platform: PC

Have already finished The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Dead Cells? Skul: The Hero Slayer is a wonderful action roguelite game you can try out in 2021 that stands on the same level as these mastodons of the genre. Expect nothing less than an outstanding combat system, which is fast-paced, well-designed, responsive and provides some of the best boss fights.

The main gimmick of the game are the skulls, which you can obtain and equip to gain numerous useful abilities, which are fun to play around with. Colourful, mesmerizing graphic of Skul: The Hero Slayer proves once again that pixels are still beautiful and in fashion.

Forza Horizon 4 (now available on Steam)

It has a perfect balance between simulation and arcade, different types of races and quests, over whopping 450 cars to discover and modify.  As Forza Horizon 4 takes place in Britain, Playground Games made sure it brings all of its harsh seasons and weather conditions through gameplay and graphic design. It’s the whole package and the whole content that is polished and crafted with diligence.

Curse of the Dead Gods

Release Date: March 3, 2020
Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One

This action roguelike game borrows heavily from its peers, but masterfully combines the similarities in a phenomenally fun game. Especially strong resemblance can be seen with Hades with its outstandingly stylish graphic when it comes to general look, location design, dimmed spooky lighting, which creates a perfect atmosphere for the dungeon crawl. As you enter each of the cursed temples in search of goodies like untold riches, eternal life and divine powers, don’t expect this game to hold your hand and gently lead you through the rooms.

Apart from nimble minions and bosses that are eager to kill and send you back to the start of the game, you’ll also suffer from more damage when attacked in the darkness. You can always pick up the updates to get the much needed perks, but be careful with local risk and reward mechanics. If you sacrifice blood or increase the corruption scale, you’ll get curses that may ruin your run.

Nioh 2 Complete Edition

Release Date: February 5, 2021
Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

Sequels of outstandingly good games may sometimes evoke worries among die-hard fans. The concerns that it may not come out as good as the original were in vain in the case for highly anticipated action RPG. Nioh 2, which is technically a prequel, meets high expectations and fulfills the hunger of those gamers, who’ve been waiting for a top AAA souls-like experience.

The main character Hide, whom you get the chance to create, is a half-human half-demon who gets to meet historical figures of Japan’s Sengoku Era and fight tons of yokais. Complex, versatile combat that goes way beyond dodge-attack and is undoubtedly the main gem of the game. The variety of weapons and ways you can use them, depending on your stance complements the combat system perfectly.

Little Nightmares II

Release Date: February 11, 2021
Platform:  PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia

Four years ago Little Nightmares took the world by the storm with its combination of well-designed environmental puzzles, charmingly spooky graphics and hair-raising obstacles in the face of the vessel's inhabitants. The seaquel Little Nightmares II is a masterpiece that charms first-commers as well as treats the first game’s fans with its unforgettable, terrifying adventure.

This time Six joins the game’s main character, Mono, as an AI companion, which serves some of some of the best riddles in the game, such as “how to reunite with Six in order to progress to the next location?”. The gameplay is, once again, of top quality. The fact that a platformer full of environmental puzzles and meticulous stealth throws gruesome looking enemies at you when you least expect them, gives unforgettable thrill.

Persona 5: Strikers

Release Date: February 23, 2021

ATLUS continues working its magic of cashing in on universally loved game series, while consistently delivering top notch titles. Apart from shift to real-time combat, Persona 5: Strikers has everything that made Persona 5 ionic, including dialogues, vibrant locations design, splendid soundtrack and meticulous attention to details.

Persona 5: Strikers is a direct continuation of Persona 5 events (familiarising yourself with them one way or another is a must), when summer road trip turns to shambles, as even on holidays evil doesn’t sleep. The Phantom Thieves gang has no choice but return to their mission of changing hearts of corrupt people.
