Once our PCs managed to handle dozens of people on the same map, Battle Royale titles began their assault on the market. No wonder they continuously stay on the top, as many of them don’t require you to pay any money to enjoy them, and you still receive constant support from their developers. With new content constantly coming and addictive gameplay, BR is where the hype is.

What are Battle Royale games?
You might be unfamiliar with the term, but don’t worry; the concept is pretty simple. It’s practically a last-man-standing type of gameplay. What’s important is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a shooter to be called a great 2022 Battle Royal game. Dozens of players start either solo or in teams, and the goal is obviously to be the only survivor(s) on the battlefield.
Theoretically, even Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout fits this description, as you can compete against more than 50 other players on the same map. Your wits are your weapon, but the general idea is still there. The other feature we often see in similar titles is quite unique: as the locations are large and there are so many players, a closure to the match is needed. How do you make it inevitable? You apply a game mechanic that makes your opponents move.
You may have seen how it’s done in Call of Duty: Warzone: there is a physical safe zone that gradually shrinks. If you want to survive, you need to change your location. It prevents instances of camping and basically lets the match end. The final encounter is inevitable! Various titles have their own versions of a safe zone, but the concept is usually identical.
In the case of shooters, these games won’t let you be a lone wolf, hunting down other players by yourself. You really need a team, and each member is vital to victory. It tastes even better, as you know your cooperation was impeccable, and it helped you and your buddies prevail.
It's also common to encounter free-to-play Battle Royale games: naturally, if you’d like to customize your characters, you will have a chance to take out your wallet. Still, it’s not necessary to have fun with others – download a game and go straight into the battlefield! As you get invested in a title, it’s your decision whether to go with a few visual fireworks. As long as it doesn’t give you a substantial advantage during a match, it’s OK to equip a sick skin for your guns. Or for anything you’d like to look unique and extraordinary.
Best Battle Royale Games for PC
We have arrived at the tricky part: what are the best Battle Royale games to play on PC? You can imagine how challenging it is to answer when there are so many great recommendations we can make. Nevertheless, we will give it a try 😉 The first title we like and consider an excellent introduction to this type of title is Totally Accurate Battlegrounds. It’s even better to play it after you’ve familiarized yourself with BR before, as it’s trying its best to do everything you know about these games in a weird, goofy manner. Somehow, it works.
The physics in this game resembles what you may have seen in games like Goat Simulator: forget about realistic ragdoll and physics in general. In return, you receive a hilarious parody of PUBGandother titles that involve a massive deathmatch. Even the visuals look the part: they aren’t downright bad but were definitely chosen to deepen the parodic atmosphere of the game.
Another BR title we think of highly is Naraka: Bladepoint. First and foremost, it’s a breath of fresh air with its melee combat instead of typical gunplay. Next to fighting with cold steel, you can also move around quickly using a grappling hook and your sick parkour skills, which gives the game a bit of a Sekiro vibe. It’s also fundamental to pick a character that suits your preferred playstyle: some are better for swift, close combat, and some excel at fighting from a bit of distance. Pick the one that suits you best and engage in fights on maps that can fit up to 60 players!
We couldn’t at least mention Apex Legends here: it’s one of the most popular BR right now, and it’s probably not going to change soon. The formula isn’t anything revolutionary, but the execution is what makes this one so enjoyable. The weapons are balanced perfectly, the controls are swift and responsive, and all characters have their own unique abilities and cool designs. You don’t have to re-design the whole concept to make it work, and this game shows how to do it in style.
There are obviously many more phenomenal battle royal games out there: we haven’t even spoken about half of the titles worth checking out. Of course, that includes Fortnite – it’s even a game that escaped the community to the point that people not involved with video games whatsoever will at least know the name.
