What is PC Game Pass and is it free?

Previously known as Xbox Game Pass PC, it is a subscription service that allows its users to play games without actually owning them. Having a brand-new game like recently-released Age of Empires 4 free from the get-go sounds heavenly. Well, the reality is still a bit more harsh: you won’t get it for LITERALLY free, although the prices of PC Game Pass are still rather bearable, considering what this service has to offer. It is very simple: you have to pay a monthly subscription (like you do with streaming services) and you get access to a broad Xbox Game Pass games library.

There is much to choose from and, as previously mentioned, it often happens that a new game is available within the Microsoft’s service shortly after its release or, which sounds even better, at release.

The prices are often around $10 / 10€ / £8 / 40 zł per month, yet do bear in mind that there are multiple times where a new subscriber will get a better price for, say, a month or a couple of months of subscription. Cheap Xbox Game Pass appears quite frequently, just be on the lookout and you will certainly find a good deal!

What is the difference between PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?

Long story short, if you only want to gain access to PC Game Pass games, a ‘regular’ offer will be just enough. In case you own an Xbox or want to play on mobile devices, then you will need to get yourself  Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. By doing that, you will be given access to Xbox Live Gold (on Xbox) so that you can go online and have multiplayer fun and, as a token of appreciation, access to EA Play’s games.

The Games with Gold included will also provide some games that you can get and own it, unlike the idea behind this service. Remember that you gain a monthly access to the library of Xbox Game Pass PC games rather than actually owning the games included in the subscription. Frankly though, what matters is that you can play the game.

How long do games stay on Xbox Game Pass?

There are some times where a rotation happens and certain games are no longer on Xbox Game Pass PC games list. Here though, you can still buy the game or wait till the title arrives again. Your progress is maintained on your device, so you’ll be able to continue the game even when it’s no longer within Microsoft’s service.

The best games on PC Game Pass

All technicalities are finally behind us, then let’s get to the most important part – games. If you want to experience something deeply-connected to Xbox, Gears 5 is a must. A fast, quite brutal gameplay, one of the best implementations of cover system in the gaming history and on top of all of that, a really touching story.

Some hear Xbox and immediately say “Forza”. What’s quite accurate. Forza Horizon 5 is the newest instalment of one of the greatest series available on the Microsoft’s console (and some games are available on PC, too) and only proves that it is one of the current greatest racing games. The refined game mechanics are crucial to titles where speed means everything. Luckily, Forza Horizon 5 has it under control.

Let’s say the question from the previous paragraph is asked once again. Some would probably say “Halo”. Halo Infinite will be out somewhere in the middle of November 2021. Halo is known for great combat, graphics that define their era and… memes. If you like your shooters as much as your memes, definitely give this one a go. Coincidentally, Halo Infinite will be available within this ‘gaming Netflix’ at release.

Lastly, in case you are more of a platform games enjoyer and don’t mind a good chunk of engaging story, Psychonauts 2 joins the b… bunch. The sequel to Psychonauts from 2005 is also included in the subscription. Play as Razputin Aquato (or simply Raz), who happens to have an ability to read other people’s minds in a very particular way. Namely, he can ‘enter’ the person and see a solidified version of what’s in their mind. And there’s quite a bit of platforming, along with stunning graphics.

Cheap PC Game Pass is usually a matter of weeks (or even days) and with it comes an endless sea of games that you can discover. Give it a try, you won’t pay much for the experience anyway.
