Understanding Dragon Map Maker Elements:

DMM maps are built from several simple building blocks:

Grid and Beauty Views: Easily toggle between Grid View for quick edits and Beauty View to preview the final rendered map.

Rooms: Build dungeons and buildings from individual, custom rooms! Paint rooms onto the grid and assign unique Room Themes. Each room creates a button for quick access to theme options.

Room Themes (Room-Based Object Spawning): Choose from a wide selection of themes for your rooms! New themes are being added continuously!

• Floor Themes: Apply floor textures like wooden planks, bricks, stone, and tiles.
• Edge Themes: Decorate room edges with objects to define the room's style, such as "Farmhouse Kitchen" or "Tomb".
• Roof Themes: Add roofing to rooms. Multi-layered rendering of areas like roofs is a planned feature.
• Pit and Sewer Themes: Create unique terrain openings.

Theme Marker Tool (Smart Object Spawning): Place Theme Markers on grid squares to automatically spawn objects. DMM intelligently places objects based on surrounding squares, allowing unique configurations.

Object Tool (Manual Object Placement): Manually place objects anywhere on the map with precision. Move, rotate, scale, duplicate and randomize objects from selected Object Themes. Cycle through similar objects to find the perfect fit.

Grid Edges: Define the edges of grid squares with Walls, Doors, and Windows. Use the Wall Fill tool to instantly add walls to Rooms. Control direction and height for extra details. These edges interact with automatic spawning functions controlled by Theme Marker and Room tools.

Biomes: Paint biomes onto the "Terrain Room" in "Biomes Mode" and layer up to 12 at once. Create natural and fantastic environments with textures, objects, and rulesets. Examples: Forest Floor, Mud, Grass, Desert, Oak Trees, Swamp etc.

Paint Height: Add height to your maps in Height Mode using accessible painting tools. This simple function adds a lot to your scenes! Some Biomes even react to height.

Happy with your map? Choose a resolution and render your map into an image file, ready for printing or using with VTTs like FoundryVTT, Roll20, or FantasyGrounds. Customize the rendered look with the map render sliders.

This is an example of a desert/jungle map. It includes water with depth and shore line foam, "slope" biomes that go transparent on a slope and show whats underneath them, in this case its orange sandy rock.

FAQ:

Will Dragon Map Maker be supported for Mac OS or Linux?

• Dragon Map Maker is initially just for PC (sorry).

Curved Room shapes?

• At the moment Room shapes are based on a 5ft square grid. Currently, Terrain facing Room edges can be set to have diagonal walls. However, Interior diagonal walls and circular walls are not currently available. This is something I’ll be working on in the future.

Can I export 3D maps or assets?

• No.

Does it render out animated maps?

• No.

Can it do Hex maps?

• No.

Sci-fi and modern assets?

• No just fantasy for now, these will most likely come with a DLC pack.

Can it do Multi-level/floor/rooftop/treetop maps (ie FoundryVTT)?

• Currently no. This is quite a new style of map supported by only one VTT system (FoundryVTT). It is very cool though and it's one feature I'm looking at in the future.

Can it do World maps?

• The terrain system is flexible enough that I believe it would be possible with the right assets. Assets for this type of map are on my list of things to add.
