The history of Crystal Dynamics

The history of this game developer began in 1992, and the company was then acquired by Eidos Interactive in 1998. Recently, Crystal Dynamics was taken over once more, this time by Embracer Group in August 2022. Up until 2006, the studio was known mainly for the Gex and Legacy of Kain series. In 2006, the Crystal Dynamics games list got bigger with Tomb Raider: Legend and kept expanding up to the latest game in the series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

With the acquisition of the company by Embracer Group, the studio entered into a new and murky era. Old fans got remasters of the first six Tomb Raider Games and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver duology, but nothing new was announced. Sadly, Perfect Dark reboot that was showcased by the team in 2020 was cancelled after a few years of work in 2025. In the same year, Crystal Dynamics was also forced to cut staff and operational costs, so its future is uncertain, just like many other teams acquired by Embracer.
