How did the company change into Activision Blizzard?

At the very beginning of the company, it had a different name. Some of the first games made by Blizzard were developed when it was still called Silicon & Synapse. The studio’s name was changed to Blizzard Entertainment in 1994, also giving us Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in the same year. Since then, it’s been one of the most crucial game series in the studio’s portfolio. 

No matter how you look at it, though, Diablo became equally as important after being released in 1996, leading to a sequel four years later. Space enthusiasts had an opportunity to play the first StarCraft in1998. Entering the 2000s, the studio has already established itself as one of the most prominent game developers. Blizzard games catalog changed forever with the World of Warcraft release in 2004. The series stepped into the MMO sphere and instantly started ruling over the genre for many years after coming out. 

Merge between Activision and Vivendi Games (the owner of Blizzard at that time) in 2008, Activision Blizzard as we know it today was formed. It’s worth noting that Blizzard is a separate entity from the other company in the name. Both are developers and publishers that make their own products.
