This add-on is compatible with both the original Long Island Rail Road route and the newer LIRR Commuter: New York - Long Beach, Hempstead & Hicksville route. The M3 features a brand new tutorial in the Training Center, offers engaging scenarios playable on either route variant, and adds a timetable layer onto LIRR Commuter, expanding your rail simulation experience.

Step into the meticulously recreated cab and take control of this "Big Apple" classic. Built between 1984 and 1986, the LIRR M3 EMUs have been a staple of Long Island Rail Road operations for decades. Experience the challenge of managing the M3's 160-horsepower traction motors, navigating the complex LIRR timetable, and keeping to schedule on this demanding commuter line. The M3 cars stretch 85-feet in length and are constructed of stainless steel. The cars operate on D. C. current from LIRR’s third-rail system and are powered by four 160-horsepower traction motors riding in General Steel GSI trucks. The versatile EMUs, built in two-car “married pairs,” operate at speeds up to 80 mph (129 km/h) on the LIRR.

While the M1s were retired in 2007, the LIRR M3s soldier on and are expected to remain in serve for a number of years to come.
