WINTERMUTE: An Episodic Story of Survival

Unravel the mysteries of WINTERMUTE, the episodic story mode of The Long Dark, featuring Episodes 1-4 (Episodes 1 & 2 received a complete Redux overhaul in December 2018). Experience a compelling narrative with new mission structures, impactful story beats, and enriched dialogue and animations.

Episode One - “DO NOT GO GENTLE”: Assume the role of bush pilot Will Mackenzie, stranded with Dr. Astrid Greenwood after a plane crash following a mysterious celestial event. Search for Astrid and uncover the scope of this quiet apocalypse in the isolated town of Milton.

Episode Two - “LUMINACE FUGUE”: Mackenzie's desperate search leads him deeper into the biting winter. Can he trust a mysterious trapper who may hold the key to finding Astrid?

Episode Three - "CROSSROADS ELEGY": Following the events in Milton, an enigmatic stranger rescues Dr. Astrid Greenwood from the brink of death. Struggle through blizzards in Pleasant Valley, using Astrid's medical skills to aid survivors. Can Astrid locate Mackenzie and unravel the mysteries that draw them toward Perseverance Mills?

Episode Four - "FURY, THEN SILENCE": Mackenzie is captured by a brutal gang of convicts. Fight to escape Great Bear Island's darkest corners, confront your fiercest enemies, and rescue innocents caught in the crossfire. Can you recover the Hardcase and continue the search for Astrid?

The initial four episodes of WINTERMUTE provide approximately 30 hours of gameplay. Episode Five is included and will be unlocked for free upon release.
