How the Game Works: The Basics

In Beguile, players are divided into two teams: Villagers and Werewolves. The goal is to eliminate all opposing team members using "confessions."

• A successful confession eliminates the target and wins the game!

• A failed confession eliminates the confessor.

• Gameplay alternates between Day and Night turns, with each player performing one action per turn.

Day: Take actions to increase affection levels, improving the chances of a successful confession later.
Night: Choose your targets carefully and attempt confessions, hoping to eliminate your opponents.

Roles & Player Stats

Roles

Each player is assigned one of two roles: Villager or Werewolf.

• All teammates share the same role; opposing teams have the opposite role.

• Roles switch daily (Day 1 = Villager, Day 2 = Werewolf, etc.), alternating between attacking and defending roles.

Affection

An affection level (1-4) determines how much one player likes another.

• Each player has a unique affection value for every opponent that is only visible to them.

• A value of 4 = love, while 1 = dislike. Higher affection values increase confession success.

• Affection levels influence outcomes both when you confess and when you are confessed to.

• Initial affection values are randomized.

Type

Each player has a type (Passionate, Free-Spirited, or Gentle) that reflects their preferences.

• Teammates can view each other's player type.

• Player types affect date outcomes and changes in affection levels.

• Player type is randomly assigned at the game's start.

Actions

The game cycles through Day Turns and Night Turns. Each role has unique actions for each turn.

Day Turn — Werewolf Actions (examples)

Date (Passionate / Free-Spirited / Gentle)

• Dating outcomes impact affection based on player types:

  • If the date matches your type, your affection for the target +1.

  • If the date matches the target’s type, the target’s affection for you +1.

  • If the date is the target’s disliked type, the target’s affection for you –1.

    (A fun date → they like you more; a bad date → they like you less.)

Longing

• Sets your affection for a chosen target to maximum (4).

  (Express your secret longing, but at your own risk.)

Day Turn — Villager Action

Fortune-Telling

• Reveals a chosen target's affection toward you to everyone.

• Only one Villager can use this per day: the first Villager to select this action on the current turn.

  (Uncover hidden feelings and expose the truth to all.)

Night Turn — Werewolf Action

Confess

• Confess your love and eliminate your target with a calculated risk. The result hinges on the target's affection for you:

  • 4 → Confession succeeds: the target is eliminated.

  • 2–3 → No effect.

  • 1 → Confession fails: you are eliminated.

• Note: You can only confess if your affection for that target is 3 or higher.

(Mutual feelings win; unrequited love can be a deadly game.)

Night Turn — Villager Action

Tempt

• Forces a target to choose whether to confess to you.

  • If they choose No, nothing happens.

  • If they choose Yes, they will confess to you.

• This forced confession is treated differently from a normal confession:

  • It happens regardless of the target's affection toward you.

  • If your (Villager’s) affection toward the target is 3, the confession succeeds.

• Outcomes when the forced confession occurs:

  • Your affection 3 or 4 → Confession succeeds → you are eliminated.

  • Your affection 2 → No effect.

  • Your affection 1 → Confession fails → they are eliminated.
