Immerse yourself in the history of New York's LIRR. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a major fleet renewal program saw the introduction of the M1 Metropolitans. Expanding business led to the subsequent acquisition of 174 similar M3 EMUs in 1984-1986, built by Budd. Now you can step into the cab and experience the unique challenges of realistic train simulation.
The LIRR M3 cars, constructed of striking stainless steel, stretch 85 feet in length. These versatile EMUs operate on DC current from LIRR's third-rail system, powered by four 160-horsepower traction motors. Built in two-car “married pairs,” these trains can reach speeds up to 80 mph (129 km/h) on the LIRR network. This train simulation game add-on allows you to take control of a vital piece of railway history.
Dressed in a distinctive yellow, gray, and silver livery, the LIRR M3 EMUs are railroad classics. While the M1s were retired in 2007, the M3s continue to serve.
