Navigate a challenging 191km route along a 3'6" Cape gauge line, traversing twenty-six stations and halts. Witness breathtaking scenery, from lush plantations and winding rivers to dramatic gorges, tunnels carved into mountainsides, deep valleys, and vast open plains. Begin your journey in the vibrant city of Pietermaritzburg (672m above sea level) and ascend to Ladysmith (1037m), experiencing the undulating terrain that defines this region.

Your train simulation begins at Masons Mill's expansive railway yard and depot, located just outside Pietermaritzburg. The double, electrified tracks wind their way to the main Pietermaritzburg station, then navigate two complete balloon loops at Boughton station to overcome the narrow valley. From there it's a climb towards the first tunnels at Cedara, twin 6km bores taking you through the mountains.

Beyond Cedara, the journey continues with more tunnels, spectacular river crossings, major stations nestled amongst plantations, factories, and traditional villages. Gaze upon the impressive Midmar Dam between Merrivale and Tweedie, a renowned landmark visible directly from the railway line.
