Furthermore, explore the ten-mile Telluride Branch from Vance Junction to the remote mining town of Pandora, Colorado. Immerse yourself in authentic railroad simulation!

The Rio Grande Southern route features the iconic Baldwin K-27 class 2-8-2 steam locomotives, essential for narrow-gauge rail transport. These locomotives, originally operated by the Denver & Rio Grande Western, are included in both D&RGW and RGS liveries. Engage in realistic train driving as you haul freight and navigate challenging terrain.

The Rio Grande Southern was envisioned by Otto Mears, the “Pathfinder of the San Juans,” to transport precious ores, including silver, from the San Juan Mountains. Experience the railroad's history, from its brief prosperity following the U.S. Silver Purchase Act to its struggles under Denver & Rio Grande control. Despite facing adversity and challenging mountain railroading, it continued to operate until 1952.

This add-on brings the RGS's scenic mountain vistas, towering wooden trestles, twisting right-of-way, and "Old West" atmosphere to life.

Along with the K-27 locomotives (with and without snowplows), the route includes a full range of authentic rolling stock. This features boxcars, gondolas, tank cars, flat cars, and stock cars in various liveries, plus the distinctive Rio Grande Southern wooden cabooses and a D&RGW narrow-gauge caboose. Eight realistic and challenging freight and switching career scenarios are included.
