Initially gas-lit, these coaches retained this feature well into the 20th century. Although originally lacking passenger emergency braking, this crucial safety feature was thankfully retrofitted in the early 1900s, enhancing the safety ofsimulated train journeys. After the 1923 grouping, these carriages were gradually repainted into the distinctive LMS full panel livery.
