The GWR 1000 Class, a distinctive evolution of the standard GWR 4-6-0 design, represents Frederick Hawksworth's ambition to deliver exceptional mixed-traffic capabilities. Born from wartime resourcefulness and inspired by LMS 8F boiler technology, these locomotives, named after the counties served by the GWR, became a fascinating experiment in steam train engineering. Operate a piece of history, although no examples exist in preservation, Didcot Railway Centre is building a replica of 1014 County of Glamorgan, you can experience this feat of engineering on your PC!

This add-on lets you manage every aspect of locomotive operation, from mastering boiler pressure and working the realistic controls in the cabin to stoking the fire. The County Class packed formidable performance. Their power, while impressive, initially posed challenges for the infrastructure, leading to adjustments that tested their capabilities. Despite this the counties worked express passenger services from London Paddington to Penzance, in tandem with the Castles, along with working freight across the main line GWR network.
