The most popular, the 5700 fleet, boasted over 850 locomotives, playing a crucial role throughout the GWR network in both passenger and freight train simulation scenarios. Classes like the 5400 and 6400 were specially equipped for "auto-train" operations, handling lighter passenger duties with ease.

These locomotives proved their resilience, accumulating up to 500,000 miles during their operational lives. Many served as some of the last steam locomotives in active service with the National Coal Board and London Transport. Today, several 5700 Class locomotives have been preserved, allowing visitors to heritage railways to experience the GWR's finest shunters firsthand.
