Experience the demanding gradients and heavy coal trains that initially plagued the line, and witness the innovative electrification project undertaken to overcome these obstacles.

Initially conceived by the LNER in 1936, the complete electrification, using unique 1500V DC system (instead of 25 kV AC), was designed for heavy trains to use regenerative braking, improving efficiency and safety. The route features the iconic Woodhead Tunnels, including the impressive "Woodhead 3," a twin-track tunnel built to accommodate the electrified lines and replace the aging and damaged earlier tunnels.

Take control of the unique BR Class 506 EMUs, a small fleet specifically designed for passenger services on this line. These distinct 3-car units operated between Hadfield, Glossop, and Manchester, characterized by being electrified to 1500V DC. The included traction also features the Class 08 and Class 76 locomotives, all equipped with Pro Range functionality, offering a challenging and authentic simulation experience for dedicated rail enthusiasts.

Though the Woodhead Line faced closure to passenger traffic in 1970, this add-on captures the route in its twilight years, featuring extra mileage including the Glossop Branch and Reddish depot.
