Originally commissioned by Foster Yeoman to replace the less reliable Class 56, the Class 59 was born from a collaboration with General Motors Electro-Motive Division, leveraging their expertise in locomotive design. Inspired by the EMD SD40-2 and featuring a Class 58 style cab, this 3,300 horsepower beast was engineered to conquer heavy hauls of stone, coal, and other freight across the challenging UK rail network. Perfect for players who love challenging scenarios and realistic train handling.

Following Foster Yeoman's initiative, both Amey Roadstone Construction and National Power followed suit, ordering Class 59/1 and 59/2 variants. The Class 59/2s, built between 1994 and 1995, boasted enhancements over previous models, including advanced slow speed control for precision in power station coal merry-go-round operations, enhanced batteries and fire safety measures, and yaw dampers that boosted the top speed from 60mph (96km/h) to 75mph (120km/h). This allows for more dynamic gameplay and varied rail operations.

EMD's diligence in delivering this initially small batch of 15 locomotives paved the way for the larger, more widespread Class 66. After National Power rail operations were acquired by English, Welsh & Scottish Railway in 1998, the Class 59/2 saw even wider use across the network. Today, DB Schenker operates these locomotives, maintained by Mendip Rail at Merehead, showcasing their enduring value and long-term reliability within the UK rail freight industry.

This Train Simulator add-on brings you the BR Class 59/2 in its present-day DB Schenker livery, faithfully representing its role in private logistics across the UK. Accompanying the locomotive are the JHA 102t bogie aggregate hopper wagons, ready to transport heavy loads. Perfect for any virtual rail enthusiast
