Background: The Fall and the Exile

For millennia, the Andorian Empire united humanity under a single banner, until a magical cataclysm unleashed the Horrors from another world. The Empire crumbled, and the remnants of humanity fled to the island of Varannar. There, they formed the Exiled Kingdoms, each bearing the scars of the Fall in its own way: Varsilia, obsessed with Imperial history; Ilmara, consumed by religious fervor; Thuram, a magocracy driven to endogamy; and Mercia, a nightmarish state ruled by slavery and discipline.

The four Kingdoms held incompatible views, leading to constant conflict and a perpetual cycle of war, famine, and misery. But hope arose when a sea route to the old continent of Andoria was discovered, revealing that the Horrors were gone and that Archaelund, a vast and fertile region, awaited re-colonization.

Archaelund, Mankind's New Frontier

For the first time in generations, humanity set aside old grudges and looked optimistically towards the future. Expeditions set sail for Archaelund, carrying colonists, soldiers, adventurers, and rogues, all lured by the promise of land, riches, and Imperial relics. The re-colonization was under way, but the Exiles faced unforeseen obstacles.

The Horrors had left behind a scarred world, where eldritch energies and warped monsters roamed, and Imperial ruins posed unpredictable arcane hazards. Conflict between the Kingdoms persisted, and a subterranean race, the Geldryn, once slaves of the Andorian Empire, now sought to claim the surface world for themselves. Despite the dangers, Archaelund remained a land of adventure and opportunity. Like many before you, your party of adventurers has finally saved enough to embark and sail East. As your ship, the Silver Star, crosses the Andor Sea, you catch your first glimpse of the ancient land of your ancestors, unaware that you are about to be drawn into a plot that traces back to the final days of the Empire, and now threatens the remnants of civilization.
