Wilhelm (the protagonist)

A prodigious newcomer to the Royal Guard skilled in combat and weapons. He seeks to assist his father, a weaponsmith; he dislikes trouble in reality but is willing to go along with others for his father's sake. Seeking his own destiny, this fresh recruit harbors a dangerous secret.

Secret: Wilhelm is the rumored Corpse Killer, a figure shrouded in taboo. He fears Topherf's potential disapproval.

Topherf

An alchemical genius who transferred her soul into an alchemically created body, granting her great longevity. She loves fashion and changes appearance and gender depending upon her mood for the day. She values character and judges people soul-deep. Cheerful, friendly, and popular.

Secret: She fears being despised for her natural form and hides it. She owes Wilhelm a great debt.

Schatten

This Pheonix-Human hybrid has been eternally reborn as a Pheonix. He likes blonds, no matter their gender. As a descendent of the Black Phoenix of Foresight, he is able to see the future with dreams and vision.

The Phoenix Kingdom

Founded by the Pheonix Clan after defeating Serpent Clan. the country prizes the Pheonix Clan bloodline and the legacy of the Ebony Pheonix.

The clan favors free movement, and as such, there is not currently anyone from the Pheonix Clan officially confirmed in the kingdom.

Corpse Killer

An urban legend in the Pheonix Kingdom that claims to originate in the West Branch of the Royal Guard, equipped with a morgue. Weapons experimentation can be conducted here with the government's explicit permission.

Prohibition against necromancy

The country takes issue with necromancy, forbidding the immoral manipulation and movement of corpses. A few exceptions are made when necromancy research is done in order to oppose necromantic magic. Expections will also be made for research that employs magical practices using the theories of necromancy.

Exceptions require submission of data to the Royal Institute of Magical Studies and the approval of the Kingdom Assembly and the King.
