A Spanish Galleon, laden with treasure, is your shared target. Will you cooperate to plunder its riches, or will your lust for gold lead you to backstab your fellow pirates? In Tortuga 1667, trust is a luxury you can't afford. Every player has their own secret objective, which is revealed only at the end. This means that your team allegiances will change many times, making your social strategy skills even more important than the cards in your “hand.” If they could be called that, since you hold no cards directly…

Deception and strategic bluffs are crucial to success. Carefully manage the hidden Event cards and use information wisely. Knowing what to reveal, and to whom, can turn the tide of battle. Don’t randomly reveal those event cards! It is often more worthwhile to either use an action to view these cursed cards, or to rely on the knowledge of a trusted ally. This important mechanic is also crucial because about half of the event cards will hurt your team drastically. Knowing what event cards are located where will allow you to force an enemy to reveal those cards and suffer the consequences. Can you discern your allies amidst the chaos and share vital information at the opportune moment?

Dominate decisive moments with carefully placed Vote cards. Plan ahead because each Vote card has three sections to determine the results of each main action the players can take (attacks, mutinies, and brawls). Can you position yourself to leverage your vote cards? For example, sometimes it may be worth putting in Water (causing an attack to fail) in order to save a Crossbones card for when you want to Mutiny against your captain.
