Jumping straight into Emperor difficulty can be frustrating and might give you a bad initial impression of the game's mechanics. Once you understand the mechanics, the Emperor difficulty offers a more enjoyable challenge.

Explore the expansive open-world of the Midlands. Travel the overworld map, encountering random events as you make your way to havens where you can accept contracts, recruit mercenaries, and replenish your supplies. Discover hidden caves, crumbling ruins, eerie graveyards, and abandoned fortresses, each leading to intense turn-based tactical battles on detailed maps.

Elevation affects hit chance, opening strategic opportunities for counterattacks, attacks of opportunity, and flanking maneuvers. Unit positioning is key! Ranged combat is also vital.

Dead Monarchy is a passion project developed over six years by Kevin Zhang, a solo indie developer and lifelong gamer with a dream of creating a living RPG world. Inspired by classics like Battle Brothers, XCOM, and Jagged Alliance, Dead Monarchy is a completely rebuilt and expanded game after its initial Early Access release.
