The history of ATLUS

First and foremost, ATLUS is a Japanese company based in Tokyo, that creates arcade machines (which never died out completely in Japan) and has an adorable character called Jack Frost from the Shin Megami Tensei series as its mascot. The rich legacy of ATLUS games started in 1986, and players did not have to wait long for the game that started it all. Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei came out in 1987. Three years later, we got a sequel. 

Furthermore, the very first Persona title came out in 1996 under the name of Revelations: Persona (or Shin Megami Tensei: Persona) and quickly became one of the developer's most successful franchises. ATLUS game catalog includes even more series that were well-received by players and built a dedicated fanbase over the years.

What should you pick to start your journey with this developer? Are the current prices good enough to add some of its titles to your collection? What are some of the greatest games by ATLUS that you can check out? The last question is tough, but we can certainly help with the price.

As you can imagine, trying out at least some of the many installments in both the SMT and Persona series is really worth it. You might wanna try the latest installments, Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload, for starters. As the series introduces new characters with each main title, you do not have to know earlier entries to understand the plot. As for the other franchise, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a great place to start. However, ATLUS games do not end here. And, of course, we have to mention the developer's opus magnum, Metaphor: ReFantazio. 

Provided you would like something a bit different, Catherine Classic shares the anime aesthetics with the other series we mentioned, although the gameplay is entirely different. In this mature, bizarre story, you end up on nightmarish maps in which you need to move blocks in a way that you can reach the top of the block tower and escape the nightmare. 

There are other games by ATLUS worth mentioning and giving a try. For example, the recent Soul Hackers 2 (which also belongs to the SMT series!). There is always a possibility to see the lineup of the best ATLUS games expand even more in the future.
